Overview
The African Youth Nuclear Summit (AYNS) 2021, hosted in the vibrant city of Accra, Ghana, from 25-29 October, lived up to its reputation as a landmark event in the African nuclear calendar. Gathering under the theme, “The impact of nuclear science and technology applications on economic recovery in Africa post COVID-19 pandemic,” participants delved into the role of nuclear technology in the continent’s future.

Event Inception and Significance
Organized by the Ghana Young Generation in Nuclear (GhYGN) under the larger umbrella of the African Young Generation Nuclear (AYGN), the AYNS 2021 was the third in its series, spotlighting Africa’s Agenda 2063. This summit sought to crystallize the continent’s objectives for the future, considering the post-pandemic era and the multifaceted potential of nuclear science.

Five Days of Insightful Discussions and Networking
The five-day summit was a perfect blend of informative sessions, panel discussions, and networking opportunities.
Day One commenced with registrations, followed by various keynote addresses from prestigious organizations like AYGN, IYNC, and IAEA, among others. The day was punctuated by thought-provoking plenary sessions addressing topics such as the role of nuclear power in Africa’s post-COVID economic growth and youth’s role in driving the AU Agenda 2063.
Day Two offered engaging sessions on diverse topics, ranging from gender equality in nuclear fields to nuclear medicine challenges in LMICs (Low and Middle-Income Countries). Multiple technical sessions unfolded simultaneously, exploring areas like radiation therapy, nuclear reactor engineering, and more.
Day Three continued the momentum with sessions on achieving UN net-zero emissions by 2050 and the ever-important topic of public acceptance of nuclear technology in African countries.
Day Four drew attention to technology advancements in nuclear medicine and decommissioning and nuclear waste management. Additionally, a special focus was given to the impact of the 4th Industrial Revolution on nuclear industry communication.
Day Five gave attendees a well-deserved break with guided tours to the picturesque Kakum National Park and the historically rich Cape Coast Castle.
Beyond The Talks: A Night to Remember
Apart from the knowledge-intensive days, the evenings were a delightful mix of cultural events, gala dinners, and opportunities for the attendees to mingle, share, and network.
Summit’s Underlying Vision
AYNS 2021 wasn’t just another conference; it was a vision translated into action. It bridged the gap between young professionals, academia, nuclear research institutions, and industry regulators. Together, they converged to brainstorm, share insights, and work towards a cohesive nuclear strategy for Africa.
The AYNS 2021 was a testament to the continent’s commitment to harnessing the power of nuclear science for a brighter, sustainable future. As the curtains fell on this summit, the promise and anticipation for the next edition were palpable.

How It Works?!
It has been argued that expanding use of wind power will lead to increasing geopolitical competition over critical materials for wind turbines such as rare earth elements neodymium, praseodymium, and dysprosium. But this perspective has been criticised for failing to recognise that most wind turbines.
Why Us!
Despite these diverse developments, developments in fossil fuel systems almost entirely eliminated any wind turbine systems larger than supermicro size. In the early 1970s, however, anti-nuclear protests in Denmark spurred artisan mechanics to develop microturbines of 22 kW.
